WineCompliance.com
WineCompliance.com takes on the considerable regulatory and paperwork responsibilities that wineries face. Wineries are focused on the technical and creative challenges of making wine — governmental requirements are a distraction. The owner was embarking on a new round of business development, hoping to expand her staff, and wanted to feel proud when she sent people to her web site.
Original web site. The owner taught herself HTML and built this site herself a number of years ago. I embrace an opportunity such as this one to make a big difference. All I need to hear is that the client is ready for a big change.
Redesign.I rewrote all the copy to make it an appropriate length and to clarify the narrative. I felt that this familiar layout, one wide column above three columns, fit the content perfectly. As I have said elsewhere, all the layouts have been done already; what's still interesting today, and still has infinite possibilities, is the message.

I am a big fan of organic colors where they are appropriate. This web site is directed at winemakers and winery owners, who spend their days near vines and earth, so I felt getting some brown and green into the visual design was important, and would help differentiate the site.

Inner page. To keep maintenance simple for the client I kept the inner pages simple and virtually unbreakable, regardless of how much content is eventually added.
